METROPLEX2024.2122 “Sleeping in Peace” is an improvisational theatrical performance where media artists, poets, musicians, contemporary artists, performers, photographers, designers, actors, and art producers each bring their own perspectives to the historic Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch building, a site that survived the atomic bombing. In this space, they express their ideas on peace, commemoration, resistance, forgiveness, compassion, objectivity, historical perspective, and contemporaneity. Aligned with the temporal axis of music, their thoughts and emotions will flow together, sometimes harmonizing and sometimes clashing, creating a performance on stage that unfolds like a piece of prose poetry over time.
METROPLEX2024.2122 Sleeping in Peace (平和の中で眠る）は メディア・アーティスト、詩人、ミュージシャン、現代美術家、パフォーマー、写真家、デザイナー、役者、アートプロデューサーがそれぞれの視点を持ち寄り、この被爆建築物である広島の旧日本銀行の建物の場で、それぞれが考える平和や、追悼や、抵抗や、許しや、慈しみや、客観性や歴史観や現在性を、音楽という時間の軸に沿いながら、時に寄り添い、反発しながら、時間と共に流れ、遡りながら 全体が散文的な詩のようにステージ上で紡ぎ上げようとする即興演劇のパフォーマンスです。
This approximately 30-minute improvisational stage performance is a collaborative project between the METROPLEX2022.2122 project by the artist collective Novo kulturno naselje from Novi Sad, Serbia, invited to the 8th edition of “Peace + Art + Music,” and the artist collective “Chojamachi School of Arts” from Nagoya City.
Artists from Novi Sad, Serbia, along with artists from Nagoya and those involved with Chojamachi School of Arts in Tokyo, will gather in Hiroshima. Using the historic Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch building, the venue for “Peace + Art + Music 2024,” as their stage, they will employ music, poetry, digital art, and performance to connect the past and future in this significant building. This endeavor seeks to question whether it is possible to lament and cherish our “small world,” a world rife with conflicts, through the small connections we create.
この約３０分の即興的なステージ・パフォーマンスは第８回目を迎える「平和と 美術と 音楽と」の招待を受けた中欧セルビア・ノビサド市のアーティスト・コレクティブNovo kulturno naseljeによるMETROPLEX2024.2122 プロジェクトと名古屋市のアーティスト・コレクティブ「長者町スクール・オブ・アーツ」との協働プロジェクトです。
セルビア・ノビサド市からの数名のアーティストと名古屋からのアーティスト達・東京から長者町スクール・オブ・アーツに関わっているアーティスト達が広島に集い、「平和と 美術と 音楽と」2024の会場であるこの旧日本銀行の建物をステージとして、音楽・詩・デジタルアート・パフォーマンスを使い、この歴史の結節点のような建物で過去と未来を結びつけ、我々が生きる争いの絶えない「小さな世界」を憂い、そして慈しむことが、この小さな我々の小さなつながりに可能なのかを問うような試みになればと考えています。

Metroplex 2023.2122 : Hiroshima chapter
In 2023, members of the artist collective Novo kulturno naselje from Novi Sad, Serbia, met with Hiromitsu Shimamoto in Novi Sad, marking the beginning of a meaningful connection. A few months later, they reconvened in Hiroshima to exchange ideas for collaboration. By the end of 2023, the Senda Pan Flute Choir and its conductor, Mr. Hiromitsu Shimamoto, were invited from Hiroshima to Novi Sad.
During Performing Arts Week in Novi Sad, the Metroplex Project organized a charity event showcasing diverse artistic talents. This unique audio-visual performance aimed to redefine artistic expression through creative synergy and collaboration. The performance featured an interactive video artwork by Dejan Ilic, where light particles moved in response to the conductor’s gestures, while the Senda Pan Flute Choir played on the A-bombed tree Kaizukaibuki Pan Flute, sending a message of peace from Hiroshima to the world through choral singing.
This year, at the invitation of Mr. Hiromitsu Shimamoto, the artists from Novo kulturno naselje will participate in Peace + Art + Music 2024 and visit Hiroshima.
2023年セルビア・ノビサド市のアーティスト・コレクティブNovo kulturno naseljeのメンバーがノビサドで島本裕充氏と出会い、意味のあるつながりの始まりとなりました。その数ヶ月後、彼らは広島で再会し、コラボレーションのアイデアを交換しました。2023年の終わりまでに、千田パンフルート合唱隊とその指揮者である島本裕充氏が広島からノビサドに招かれました。
ノビサドでのパフォーミングアーツウィーク中、Metroplex Projectは多様な芸術的才能を披露するチャリティイベントを開催しました。このユニークなオーディオビジュアルパフォーマンスは、創造的なシナジーとコラボレーションを通じて芸術表現を再定義することを目的としていました。パフォーマンスでは、Dejan Ilic氏によるインタラクティブなビデオアート作品が特徴的で、指揮者の動きに応じて光のパーティクルが動き、田パンフルート合唱隊は被爆樹である貝塚伊吹のパンフルートを演奏し、広島から世界に向けて平和のメッセージをコーラルシンギングで発信しました。
今年は島本裕充氏の招待により、Novo kulturno naseljeのアーティスト達がPeace + Art + Music 2024に参加し、広島を訪れます。
